Hi! Sorry for not posting for very long.

If you still remember my previous essay (it is now available through Wikipedia), it may interest you that soon I plan to finish my second one: "Necromancy and Shadow World", in which I deal with these topics.

If you are interested, I will post it here, as soon as I finish it.

Regards

Yes, it's been a long time since you were here, Randir ! (but what is time for dwarves ? )
Anyway, it'll be with a real pleasure that we shall read the second chapter of your exploration of the "dark side" of the Middle-Earth ! Tire la langue

I just want to congratulate Randir for his essay. I don't yet read it, but it seems very interesting.  Sourire
More criticisms after reading !

Yep, congratulations for this very interesting essay Sourire

Two remarks :

Citation
(with few extremely exceptions like Turin “Turambar, son of Hurin, coming from the halls of Mandos”(22) to the Last Battle and End of Arda Marred),

Actually, the very last version of the Second Prophecy of Mandos mentions Túrin "returning from the Doom of Men at the ending of the world" (HoMe XI, p. 247, §31). Informations from this text also need to be relativised, as it is a myth of Númenórean origin (HoMe X, p. 342 + p. 359, note 19).

Citation
Dark Lords are not the only ones that use confusing delusions to their purpose “And in that time also, which songs call Nurtalë Valinóreva, the Hiding of Valinor, the Enchanted Isles were set, and ail the seas about them were filled with shadows and bewilderment.”(56))

Indeed. Another example is the Girdle of Melian : "and Melian put forth her power and fenced all that dominion round about with un unseen wall of shadow and bewilderment" (Silmarillion, p. 106).

1. Turin - you are right, shame on me, but I forgot about final version of Prophecy. Perhaps I should exchange Turin for Beren, who is clearly said in Silmarillion to tarry in Halls of Mandos, and was released from it, and the sense of the paragraph would remain.

2. Girdle of Melian - I am well aware of it, I just wanted to indicate that there are examples, without listing them (as I primarily focus on the Evil side  Souriant ),  but maybe I will enclose this quote as well Sourire

Thanks very much, especially for the first remark (I shall correct essay at once Clin d'oeil).

Pleasure Sourire

As for Beren, I'm not sure whether he can be considered as an exception : spirits of dead Men are believed to go and stay in Mandos for a while before going to nobody-knows-where (according to some texts of the Legendarium).

Exception in the sense that he returned from Halls (or rather was let go), not that he was there.

Randir

PS.(if I was obscure on that matter, I will clear things up)

OK, I have just corrected some minor mistakes in the essay (but haven't yet make it more readable, to those that wanted more user-friendly structure of the text), the links are the same:
